Second progress picture for my landscape painting.
Third progress picture for my landscape painting.
This is my final picture for my landscape painting.
Surrealist Portrait
This is my surrealist portrait project. This piece started with a picture of a model, and reference photos of geometric shapes. I started with compositionals to figure out the layout of the shapes on the face Then I chose my color palette, in which I picked rich colors centered around the primary and tertiary colors. I like the forms of shapes I had in this piece, because they added to the surrealism, yet also pulled depth into the face, adding contours like in a realist portrait.
If I were to do this piece again, I would probably use acrylic instead of oil paint. I think because I didn't need to blend anything for this piece, acrylic would have gotten me the crisp lines that were extremely difficult to achieve with the oil paint. Over all this piece turned out well and I love the aesthetic of the portrait.

WaterColor Paintings
This is a project we did with a professional watercolor painter. This project consisted of layering paint in such a way that the denser layers of paint acted as the darker portions of the painting.
Firstly, we added a layer of masking fluid to get the white highlights, then added watercolor, masking fluid for the lightest portions, and so on.
Some things I could work on are the richness of the colors. All of the colors are similar in depth and it kind of hides the shapes of the piece, making it unclear where the foreground and the background start. However I like how the highlights bring out the form of the piece, and they add to the realism in an otherwise unrealistic piece.
Overall this piece turned out well and I enjoyed using the medium.

Artist Inspired Painting
This is my Roy Lichtenstein inspired painting. This piece went really well, as I was inspired by this artist a lot. The girl in this photo was invented after looking at several photos of headshots. The water in the piece was heavily inspired by a Lichtenstein painting placed in water.
An issue I had with this painting is the proportions of the face. I think the distance between the eyes and the bottom of the nose is too long for the face. And the lips are off also.
Some things that went well with this piece are the colors. I think the the colors in this piece are very reminiscent of the original Lichtenstein paintings. And the composition of the piece is really satisfying for the image I was trying to create for this piece.

The last piece I did this semester was the watercolor shack, with the woodlands and grasslands. This piece was incredibly fun, and I learned so much about watercolor technique. I had a very good experience with learning new watercolor skills, like how to achieve different textures, with a medium that doesn't possess much texture in and of itself. This piece was my favorite piece I've ever done, and I love the calm serenity the light but rich colors achieved. I still have a lot to learn in terms of watercolor and other painting mediums, but I think all the practice I had this semester really helped me to achieve a higher level of artistic ability.
